About Us

My name is Vinh Quang Nguyen. I was born in 1985 in Saigon, Vietnam. My parents and I came to the US in 1993 as war immigrants. We are now proud and blessed to be US citizens. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2009 in Civil Engineering.  Problem is I was into flashlights for as long as I can remember. I remember having a simple flashlight made with a ruler, 1.5V incandescent bulb, D cell, a wire and some rubber bands. I spent hours under my bed and wandering the streets of Saigon at night with it. I was 6 years old. Ever since, flashlight has been my burning passion. Therefore, my civil engineering career was very short lived after graduation as I realized I must pursue my true endeavors. Sky Lumen was officially founded in 2014 but my flashlight work over at started sometime in 2008.

My goal is simple, help deliver the brightest flashlights to all corners of the world and make many friends along the way.

What is V54?

If A=1, B=2, C=3...Then L+O+V+E=54. Therefore V54 = From Vinh with Love

Fiat Lux = Let There Be Light in Latin

My Father, Sky Lumen Co-founder, Phung Quang Nguyen, passed on January 31, 2019 from heart failure. Mr. Nguyen dedicated the last 10 years of his life helping me developed Sky Lumen. He is the creator of all Sky Lumen customs such as Solis, Sirius, and Scylla lights. He also helped developed the Sky Lumen Nguyen. Unfortunately, he passed before this light official release. A working prototype was buried with him at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. He will forever be loved and missed in our hearts.
